Wedding dress shopping in Lancashire: when to start and what to expect at your appointment

The question we’re asked most, usually within minutes of the proposal photos going up: “When should I start looking for my dress?” Here’s the honest answer, plus exactly what happens when you walk through our door in Cleveleys.

The honest timeline

Made-to-order gowns aren’t pulled from a warehouse, they’re cut and made for you, and most of our designers need six to eight months from order to delivery. Add a couple of months for alterations and a comfortable buffer, and the sweet spot for your first appointment is around nine to twelve months before your wedding.

Booking a 2027 wedding? Starting now isn’t keen, it’s perfectly timed. You’ll have the full pick of the new collections and zero time pressure, which makes the whole experience feel like the celebration it should be.

And if your engagement is shorter, months, not years, please don’t panic-buy something online. Many designers offer rush orders, and our bridal outlet is full of beautiful off-the-rail gowns you can take home almost immediately. Short timelines are something we solve weekly.

Before you visit

You don’t need much, but three things help enormously. First, a rough sense of your venue and season, a tipi in the Ribble Valley and a grand hotel ballroom in Lytham pull a dress in different directions. Second, a feel for budget; tell us honestly and we’ll only pull gowns you could actually say yes to (you can browse “from” prices across our collection first). Third, a handful of saved photos, even contradictory ones. Especially contradictory ones, actually; the contradictions tell us a lot.

Wear underwear you’re comfortable being helped in and out of dresses in, skip the heavy fake tan that day, and bring shoes roughly your wedding-heel height if you have them. That’s genuinely it.

What happens at your appointment

When you arrive at 112 Victoria Road West, the boutique is yours. We start with a sit-down chat, your day, your style, your non-negotiables, then walk the rails together. You’ll pick gowns, we’ll pick gowns, and somewhere in the mix we’ll slip in a wildcard. (The wildcard wins more often than anyone expects.)

In the fitting suite, you’ll have your own stylist, Brittany or Gill, often both, helping you in and out of every gown, clipping each one so you see how it would fit your body in your size. Your people sit comfortably with the best view of the mirror. There’s no rush, no pressure, and no “what do we need to do to get you in this dress today.” Some brides say yes on the first visit; plenty come back for a second look. Both are exactly right.

The moment you find it

You’ll know. Honestly, you will, and we usually spot it a few seconds before you say it, because you stop looking at the dress in the mirror and start looking at yourself. Then come the happy tears, the photos, and the little celebration we never get tired of throwing.

We measure you carefully, order your gown in your size, and stay with you the whole way to the aisle, arrival, fittings, alterations advice, the lot.
