How our outlet works

These are the sample gowns our brides have tried on in the boutique, the very dresses that have made hundreds of mirror moments happen. When a collection moves on, we retire its samples to the outlet rail at a much-loved price.

Each gown is professionally checked and beautifully kept. They come in the sample size shown, and our recommended seamstresses can usually alter a gown by a size or two in either direction, ask us at your appointment. There’s no online checkout, because a wedding dress deserves a fitting: book in, try it on, and if it’s the one, it goes home with you.

Who the outlet rail suits

Two kinds of bride do well here. The first is getting married sooner than a made-to-order gown allows. A gown ordered from the collection generally takes six to eight months to arrive, plus around two months for alterations, so if your date is inside nine months the outlet is the honest answer rather than a compromise. An outlet gown is already in the building and can go home with you the same day.

The second is the bride who has found the dress she loves and would rather spend the difference on the day. Outlet gowns are the same designers, the same fabrics and the same construction as everything else on our rails. What makes them cheaper is that they have been tried on in this boutique rather than made new for you.

What to expect from a sample gown

Every gown is professionally cleaned and checked before it goes on the rail. A sample has been worn over other people’s clothes for a few minutes at a time, so what you will typically find is a hem that has caught the floor and the occasional loose bead, both of which a seamstress deals with as part of normal alterations. Anything more noticeable than that we point out to you before you fall in love with it, because we would rather lose a sale than have you find it at home.

Each gown is one of a kind and comes in the sample size shown. Our recommended seamstresses can usually take a gown in by a size or two, and can sometimes let one out, depending on the seam allowance the maker left. We will tell you honestly at the appointment whether the gown in front of you can be made to fit you properly. If it cannot, we will say so.
